Geography of gambling

Gambling is characteristic of its negative impacts on the lives of individuals and their families, on the other hand it brings partially positive economic impacts into public budgets (national as well as municipal). Although it is not a typically geographical research topic, geography may be helpful in providing a missing comprehensive approach that would take into account the mutual relations of institutions, space, and society. The research team of the Department of Geography, Faculty of Science, Palacký University Olomouc has been dealing with spatial differentiation of gambling facilities and with the approach of individual municipal authorities towards regulation of gambling, as well as it has aimed to study the attitudes of the Czech population to gambling and to reveal the factors that influence those attitudes.
